Why does the stainless steel water pump I bought rust?

Our water pumps are made of 201 stainless steel or 304 stainless steel. If your water pump is seriously corroded and rusted, is it because your water pump was hit during use? Maybe the pH of the water in your area is relatively high? Our solar well pumps can only be used in clean water.
