Proportion of wind power and photovoltaic power in all continents of the world: Africa
Wind and solar energy accounted for 3% of Africa's electricity structure in 2019, which is lower than the global average. The leaders are Mauritania (24%), Morocco (17%), Kenya (8%) and Ethiopia (6%). South Africa and Egypt are the two countries with the largest demand for electricity, with wind and solar power generating only 4%. Despite its low proportion, Egypt saw the fastest growth in solar power generation in 2019, with annual power generation more than tripled. With the completion of the 530 MW Noor Ouarzazate solar thermal power plant (Noor Ouarzazate), Morocco's solar power generation has also increased significantly.
